Here at the London Prosthetics Centre, we work in collaboration with trusted care partners to offer a range of rehabilitation therapies, from physiotherapy to mental well-being support, to provide effective and long-lasting prosthetic rehabilitation.

You - our client - are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to being with you every step of the way, guiding you through physical and mental rehabilitation, whether that be in our on-site rehabilitation suite or with one of our trusted residential rehab providers.

In-Clinic Rehabilitation

A rehabilitation programme designed for you, and only you

Our in-clinic rehabilitation program brings all essential therapies together under one roof, minimising the strain of coordinating multiple appointments.

Our new, purpose-built rehabilitation studio features dedicated training areas equipped with cardio machines, balance equipment, free weights and more. Here, your personal trainer will work with you to adjust to your prosthesis and push your body to new limits to help you get back to pre-injury levels of mobility and independence.

While taking a break in between reps, you can also get a peek behind the scenes at our talented silicone technicians in action. Our High Definition Silicone Clinic is located below the rehabilitation studio, offering you a unique perspective on the background of your prosthetic care.

Residential Rehabilitation

A comfortable and familiar place you can call home.

We partner with trusted residential rehabilitation providers, Remedy Healthcare, to deliver a comprehensive treatment plan for primary amputees.

Designed to meet the diverse needs of amputees, your residential rehab program will depend entirely on your needs as an individual. This home will become your home; a comfortable space familiar to you where you have the freedom to make mistakes and learn with the support of a specialist team as you work to regain your independence.

Friends and family are more than welcome to visit you here to provide additional physical and mental support. Once you are confident in your mental and physical abilities and you’re ready to leave the facility, you’ll easily be able to transfer your skills for use at home, because the purpose-built rooms are designed to replicate life at home.

FAQ

Your questions answered

Rehabilitation is an essential part of any holistic prosthetic care programme. A tailored rehab programme will help improve your mobility, strengthen your body and mind, and increase your confidence ultimately leading to a more independent and fulfilled lifestyle.

Your case manager, our prosthetists, and rehabilitation specialists will work together to create a completely bespoke treatment and rehabilitation programme to best suit your needs and goals. If you require round-the-clock care due to the complexity of your injury, residential rehabilitation will likely be the best option for you. However, if your amputation doesn’t significantly increase your risk of further injury, or you have additional support in the home, a course of in-clinic rehabilitation sessions will be most beneficial to you and your care.

Yes, prosthetic rehabilitation can significantly reduce phantom limb pain and residual limb discomfort. Personal training and physiotherapy play a crucial role in retraining the nervous system, improving circulation, and strengthening the muscles around the residual limb, which can help alleviate pain.

Targeted exercises, stretching routines, and specialised desensitisation techniques are incorporated into rehabilitation programmes to help the brain adapt to limb loss and reduce misfiring nerve signals that cause phantom pain.

Our team of specialists may recommend a combination of alternative therapies including:

  • Acupuncture
  • Biofeedback
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Massage therapy
  • Meditation or mindfulness exercises
  • Mirror therapy
  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
  • Spinal cord stimulation
  • Neurostimulation

These therapies are designed to compliment any medical prescription to manage phantom limb pain.

All rehabilitation at LPC begins with a face-to-face assessment. This appointment allows us to understand you fully before making any recommendations. We offer several rehabilitation pathways so your care can reflect your needs, preferences, and stage of recovery. Find out more in our Prosthetic Rehabilitation at
